Adventures in Oahu: New Summer 2022
Is your family planning their adventures in Oahu for Summer 2022? This post will help new and return visitors plan for what looks like an exciting time. There have been many changes in the last couple of years. Many attractions have permanently changed their procedures, and many places have relaxed COVID restrictions. There is a whole lot of ʻnew in ʻ22,ʻ and weʻll help you navigate it all.

6 questions for adventures in Oahu during Summer 2022?
While Hawaii receives many different types of travelers, there are many common questions. Even if you are not planning to visit the islands during the Summer of 2022, you will get valuable tips and tricks for your family’s vacation. No matter when that may be. If you are curious about any of these 6 questions, make sure to give it a read.
There are questions you might not know to ask. We go beyond Oahu tours and share local events, protocols, and insights.
Waikiki offers a variety of free activities for everyone. Weʻll share a couple of our favorite events returning in 2022.
Return visitors may notice the most changes in the islands. Weʻve gathered a few of those in the article.
There are new procedures for many of the most popular adventures on Oahu. Weʻll share the biggest ones with you.
Wow! So much has changed. It is impossible to put them all in one post. You may want to start from the beginning.
Donʻt worry. Not everything is different. There is plenty you can rely on during your trip this Summer.
As with the rest of the world, recently, there have been so many changes. Weʻve tried to keep you updated throughout the entire pandemic. If you havenʻt followed along, feel free to start from the beginning. Otherwise, keep reading, and weʻll show you whatʻs new in Hawaii for 2022.

Is this your first time on the island?
If these are your first adventures in Oahu, you will want to read this. Many of the most popular attractions now require advanced reservations or are off-limits entirely. Weʻll help you prepare for that. As you may have heard, Hawaii approached the COVID pandemic much differently than many States.
While most of those restrictions have been rolled back, things tend to change quickly. We have again reached the dubious distinction of most per capita COVID cases for every 100,000 people. So itʻs probably wise to plan for some more changes.
Are there events on Oahu this summer?
Some of our favorite events have returned or are scheduled to return during Summer 2022. The Kamehameha Day Floral Parade, a local favorite, is making itʻs return. Concerts have resumed at the Waikiki Shell, and nearly every attraction on the island has reopened. Most people in the hospitality industry are expecting to be busy. In fact, many places are sold out already.
Another one of our favorite things about living in Waikiki has returned. Weʻre talking about Friday Night Fireworks. The first show in over two years is scheduled for June 3rd at 8 pm in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village. They started in 1988 and are a free treat for residents and visitors alike.

What are the COVID restrictions like now?
As we mentioned, we have had a different approach to health and safety in Hawaii. While restrictions have eased, case counts have recently increased. For those who havenʻt been following along, you may want to check out the ʻWeʻre Backʻ series.
If you are curious about that, check out the COVID Information page. As of now, masks are optional. There are no restrictions on gathering or pre-testing requirements. If the numbers continue to climb, some of those may come back.
Returning for more adventures in Oahu during Summer ʻ22?
If you have been here before, you will notice some changes. Many of the most famous places now require reservations. The newest is Diamond Head Crater. Other sites like the North Shore and Waimanalo have entirely banned commercial operations at beach parks. We are also still awaiting word from Hanauma Bay when they will allow tour busses again.
The days of walking up for Arizona Memorial tickets are long gone. It doesnʻt look like they are coming back. We cannot emphasize enough how critical advanced reservations are for this exhibit. They release tickets twice, and they go quick. The good news is that they have brought back the bus tour to the USS Utah after a 10-year absence.

Weʻre also bringing back some classics.
COVID hit Hawaiiʻs economy early. We immediately discontinued Airport and Cruise pickups in Mid-March 2020. Since then, we have offered only drop-off services. Well, we have good news for you.
We are in the process of renewing both permits. That means we expect Your Private First/Last Day Transfer Tours to be back to normal by July 2022. Enjoy any route, but bring your luggage and squeeze out every minute of vacation.
Weʻve updated Your Private Tours of Hawaii for Summer ʻ22
Weʻve been fortunate to have a few return visitors since we reopened. It has been so nice to see everyone again. There are even more repeat guests scheduled for the Summer. Not only that, weʻre finally going to get to give the people who donated to the Australian wildfires their free tours!
Youʻll notice some upgrades to the vehicle. We have a brand new stereo system, microphone, and shiny wheels. Not to mention, we lava lined the floors for easy cleaning, and there are way more cupholders. But your favorite thing may be the free wi-fi, especially for our returning Aussieʻs and Kiwiʻs.

Over 300 five-star tours and adventures in Oahu!
You can use that new free wi-fi to check out the updates to our website. We reached 300+ five-star online reviews and made it easier for you to leave one. Even a new personality quiz to help pick the perfect Oahu tour. The questions are fun and easy.
We have kept the Things To Do on Oahu Blog updated every couple of months. There will be more posts coming, so make sure to subscribe. Weʻre also pretty close to 1000 organic likes and followers on Facebook. Each one will get a surprise, so make sure to do that.
Weʻre making our sustainability goals official with Travelife!
Everyone who has taken Your Private Tours or even followed along online knows we do this for more than just money. Hawaii is an incredible place, and we are so fortunate to live here. Our mission is to “positively impact the community while providing an outstanding experience for both residents and visitors.” So earlier this year, we decided to take another step toward that goal.
We began the path to Certification through Sustainable Tourism Hawaii early in 2022. We had hoped to be certified by the Summer when we started, and we just submitted for our audit. If all goes well, we should be accredited by July. Itʻs part of a very comprehensive worldwide program by Travelife.

What is the Sustainable Tourism Certification?
The mission of the Sustainable Tourism Association of Hawaii is “to protect Hawaiiʻs unique natural environment and host culture through the promotion of responsible travel and educational programs relating to sustainable tourism for residents, businesses, and visitors.” The program helps businesses improve sustainability, and customers choose responsible operators.
Their partners at Travelife have developed a three-step process. They have formed global standards and criteria to follow. One of their main goals is to make the process “transparent, comparable, and accountable.” We have submitted our Sustainability Report and are awaiting the next steps.
New GPS Guided Audio Tours in beta testing!
But thatʻs not the only thing weʻve been up to recently! You may have heard about those tour guide apps. Just easily download them on your phone, and you are off to the races. They give step-by-step directions, historical information, and even some corny jokes. Rather than start from scratch, we partnered with VoiceMap and some of the best tour guides on the island.
Together, we present Audio Tour Hawaii, or AT.Hi, for short. So far, we have three routes in beta testing. There are two driving tours and one on foot. There are one more of each behind those in the pipeline, and then a bike tour is coming soon. We hope to launch the first three tours at some point early this Summer.

Want to add an audio tour to your adventures in Oahu?
We have a few voucher codes available for beta testers if you are traveling before then. Feel free to contact us, and weʻll point you in the right direction. They are easy to use and work online and off. Every tour has two free quizzes and scavenger hunts to enjoy.
Theyʻre meant for use by visitors, but also residents, school kids, and even other tour companies. Perhaps the one weʻre most excited about is the Waikiki Walking Tour. It utilizes the historic trail and shows you all about our neighborhood.
What hasnʻt changed?
Wow! Thatʻs a lot of new. you may be asking yourself at this point, “did anything stay the same?” Donʻt worry. You can still rely on plenty of favorites and fun. The food trucks we are famous for are still here, and there are even some new ones. Places like Waimea Valley havenʻt had to change their policies too much, and you can still shop until you drop.
While we raised our prices back in December 2021, we have no plans to do that again soon. We still have a blast doing what we do and canʻt wait to see you and your family. What also hasnʻt changed is weʻre almost sold out for Summer 2022, so make sure to book well in advance.
