About Diamond Head State Park

Whether you’re catching sunrise from the summit or simply enjoying a view from below, Diamond Head offers one of the most iconic backdrops in Hawaii. Keep reading for quick answers to make the most of your visit.
Diamond Head State Monument is located just east of Waikiki, with access via Diamond Head Road. It’s about a 10-minute drive from most hotels in the area. Parking is limited, but a reservation system helps manage the flow.
It’s short, steep, and packed with history. This isn’t just a nature trail, it’s a hike through a volcanic cone turned military outpost. You’ll pass bunkers, tunnels, and a 1917 Fire Control Station on your way up.

Diamond Head State Monument is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the last entry at 4:00 p.m. However, they have additional closures for maintenance and mitigation.

Early morning is the best time to go to avoid the heat and crowds. Reservations are required for all non-Hawaiʻi residents.

Yes. All visitors (except Hawaiʻi residents) need to reserve both parking and entry tickets online in advance. Entry is $5 per person and $10 per vehicle. Walk-in guests must still book online ahead of time.

Yes. Closed-toe shoes are required. No pets are allowed (except service animals), and drones or commercial activity without a permit are prohibited. The trail is not wheelchair accessible, and visitors should be prepared for steep stairs and uneven terrain.
