Unlike busier historic sites, Byodo-In is designed for peace and reflection, not worship. It blends Japanese architecture and Hawaiian landscape. Early mornings or are cooler and quieter, especially midweek. The soft morning light is perfect for photos. But keep in mind the tour busses generally pack the parking lot for the first couple hours.

They close late in the afternoon, which means you can get back to the City in time to watch a sunset.
