Visitors should exercise caution, especially during winter, when ocean conditions change rapidly.

Kuilima Cove is located on the grounds of Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s North Shore. It’s just a short walk from the main resort area. Public parking is available near the resort, and the beach is easily accessible via a paved path.
Kuilima Cove is one of the safest and most serene swimming spots on Oahu. Protected by natural lava rock barriers, the cove offers calm, clear waters ideal for snorkeling and swimming. Its shallow depth and sandy bottom make it especially family-friendly.

Swimming at Kuilima Cove is generally safe, especially during the summertime when the waters are flat and calm. However, there are no lifeguards on duty, so visitors should exercise caution and be especially aware. 

It’s advisable to stay within the protected areas marked by buoys and to check current sea conditions before entering the water. 

No reservations are needed for casual visits to Turtle Bay or Kuilima Cove. So feel free to swim, walk, or relax on the beach. However, if you’re planning a larger gathering, event, or bringing tents and equipment, you may need a permit from the City and County of Honolulu.

It’s best to check ahead if you’re organizing anything formal or with a group.

No reservations are required for casual visits to Turtle Bay or Kuilima Cove. These are public areas open year-round.
