More information about

Hidden beaches on the island

Hidden beaches on Oahu aren’t made for big crowds, and that’s exactly what makes them special. Their beauty lies in being simple, quiet, and untouched.

From strolling beneath shady ironwoods to watching waves roll in or joining a beach cleanup, these moments help you reconnect with the island at a slower pace. It’s a refreshing way to step off the tourist trail and into something more meaningful.

Because many of these beaches are hidden from view or protected by local laws, access is often limited. That’s why our tours follow these guidelines, to help keep these places just as peaceful as they were meant to be.

Frequent questions

About tours to hidden beaches

Curious about Oahu’s hidden beaches? We’ve gathered a few common questions to help you enjoy these spots respectfully and responsibly. Youʻll find answers about access and etiquette on the best way to experience them on your vacation.

Most of these beaches are scattered around the east and north sides of the island. Some you’ll pass along the drive and enjoy from the vehicle. Others are tucked at the end of a short trail, or included in a cleanup route.

They’re not on every tour, but if you’re curious, just ask. We’re always happy to share. But other than Hanauma Bay, if you are traveling on your own, there are no restrictions for visitors at Oahu beaches.

They’re quieter. Less traffic, fewer crowds, no signs pointing the way. These are the places locals walk at sunrise or head to when they need a moment. And because they’re less visited, they give you a deeper sense of place, something you can feel even if you’re just passing by.

But that also means that even if there arenʻt laws governing commercial vehicles here currently, we have made extra adjustments with the Community in mind.

Sometimes, but not always. A few have calm water and are great for a dip if the conditions are right. Others are more for walking, exploring, or taking photos. We’ll always give you the heads-up based on the day’s weather and the beach itself.

But keep in mind, if theyʻre less visited, theyʻre less guarded.  In general, we only recommend visitors swim under the watchful eye of Ocean Safety.

No permits needed for these. But some have limited access or parking, especially in residential areas. That’s why we keep it low impact and avoid weekends. If you’re joining a service tour, and the beach is available, we’ll take care of all the logistics.

Yes. Mostly about respect. These beaches are quiet for a reason and we want to do it are part to keep it that way. These are a few of the rules for the general pubilic visiting these special places:

  • No loud music or parties
Don’t block driveways or park illegally
  • Stay on public paths
Pack out whatever you bring in and if you take a photo, tag mindfully

Since we want to be respectful and responsible, to both our community and visitors, here are some specifics regarding Your Private Tours:

  • No stopping at the beaches from Makapuu through Kailua and Sunset Beach to Haleiwa by City and County Law.
    • However, you can see the beaches on the Waimanalo side as we drive.
  • Kahana Bay is visible from the vehicle, but we only stop here for beach cleanups, other service options, or guests renting equipment from Kahana Bay Adventures.
  • Kawela Bay is possible for guests to take a self-guided (long) walk, but be aware that there are no facilities in the area.
